Privacy Policy for Forget Me Not

Summary

By default, Forget Me Not does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All reminders and app data are stored locally on your device only. We do not use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services, and the app does not require you to create an account.

The one exception is cross-device sync, an optional feature that is off until you turn it on. Turned on, it sends your reminders, categories, fields and notification state — never your app settings — to Google's Firebase service, so a second device signed into the same Google account can keep the same reminders. Below says exactly what that involves. Leave it off, or never sign in, and everything in this policy's summary above holds exactly as written.

Data we collect

With sync off — which is how the app starts, and stays unless you turn it on — we do not collect any personal data. The app does not access, transmit, or share your reminders, contacts, location, or any other personal information. Everything you enter into the app stays on your device.

Turning sync on changes this for the account you sign in with, in the ways the section below describes. It changes nothing else: the app still carries no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting, and never sends your data anywhere other than to the Google services that sync itself depends on.

Permissions

The app requests notification permission so it can alert you about your reminders. This permission is used solely to display local notifications on your device and is not used to collect or share any data.

Purchases

Forget Me Not is free to use, with no time limit. It offers a one-time in-app purchase, Pro, which unlocks a small number of additional features — see Free and Pro. There is no subscription. All payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not receive, see, or store your payment information (such as card details) — this is managed by Google's payment systems under Google's own privacy policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Cross-device sync (optional)

Forget Me Not offers an optional feature — off by default, and only ever turned on by you, under Settings → Sync — that keeps the same reminders in step across devices signed into the same Google account. Turning it on:

• Signs you in with your Google account, using Google's own sign-in screen — we never see or store your Google password.
• Sends your reminders, categories, fields and notification state (dismissed, snoozed or skipped) to Firebase, a Google Cloud service, associated with your Google account's unique ID. Your app settings are never sent — each device keeps its own.
• Lets any other device signed into that same account receive the same data, which is the whole purpose of the feature.

This data is stored by Google on our behalf, under our Firebase project, and is not sold, used for advertising, or shared with anyone beyond what running the feature itself requires. Google's own handling of it as infrastructure is governed by Google's privacy policy and Firebase's data processing terms.

Turning sync off again (Settings → Sync → Sign out) stops any further data being sent, but does not delete what has already been stored against that account — the same reminders are simply waiting there if sync is turned back on later, on this device or another. To have that data deleted entirely, contact us at support@sherwood-tech.co.uk from the email address linked to the Google account in question, and we will remove it.

Sync is one of the features that make up Pro, so it additionally requires Pro or the thirty-day trial of it — see Free and Pro. Nobody's reminders are held to ransom by this: turning sync off, or letting the trial end, only pauses sync — it never deletes anything, on the device or in Firebase, and the reminders on the device itself are untouched either way.

Data sharing

Outside of cross-device sync, described above, we do not share any data with third parties, because we do not collect any data in the first place. Sync itself shares data with exactly one third party, Google, and exactly for the purpose of running the feature it belongs to — never for advertising, analytics, or any purpose of our own.

Children's privacy

Forget Me Not does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. With sync off, the app collects no personal data at all; sync itself is opt-in, requires signing in with a Google account, and is subject to Google's own age requirements for doing so.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — most recently to add the section on cross-device sync above, when that feature was introduced — this page is updated and the "Last updated" date changes accordingly.
